REEFTON HOKITIKA BAND’S VISIT TO TOWN

. REEFTON, This. Day (0.C.).— Playing .members, and officers of the Hokitika, Municipal Band visited Reefton on Sunday, returning a visit made by the Inangahua Silver Band earlier in the year.' The combined bands, numbering 36 players, marched, down Broadway,,and played' a short programme at the hospital. Later at the band, rotunda, the bands under the-leadership of Mr C. Ross, conductor of the visiting band, and Mr S. C. Robinson, Inangahua conductor, played an enjoyable programme. The numbers included hymns, Old Earth, New Rochdale, Selections Round the Camp Fire, Musical Moments, -You are My Sunshine, Buttons and Bows. The visitors were entertained by the Inangahua Band, to whom Mr Ross expressed thanks foi' the welcome and hospitality shown. The weather was showery and there was a poor attendance at the bands’ concerts. The visiting bandsmen I'eturned to Hokitika on Sunday evening. PERSONALS Mr and Mrs F. E. Lawry are spending annual leave in the North Island. Mr W. Chandler (Reefton) is visiting Dunedin. Flying Officer R. S. D. Kearns D. 5.0., D.F.C., D.F.M., of the Royal New Zealand Air Force is visiting his parents at Reefton. He is accompanied by his wife and daughter. WOMEN’S INSTITUTE Mrs Hobbs presided at the monthly meeting of the Reefton Women’s Institute, 29 members being present. One visitor was welcomed. Volunteers for hospital visiting were Mesdames Collis and Mann. A birthday buttonhole was presented to Mrs S. Hunt. Mesdames H. Wills and Millar were elected delegates to the half-yearly Federation meeting to be held at Stillwater. Invitations to birthday parties were received from the Cobden. Brunner and Runanga Institutes. It was decided by all members interested in drama that a play-read-ing be held on Tuesday night in the W.I. rooms. The usual donation was made to the Leper Fund. A new “Link” has been established with a W.I. at Durham, England, it was reported. A wool rug was exhibited by Mrs Pearce and an interesting demonstration of making honey-comb aprons and cellophane hats was given by Mrs Duff. Mrs Mitchell occupied the lucky seat and Mrs Hinton won the competition “Hidden Parts.” The “wandering shilling” was won by Mrs Archer. < Monthly competitions resulted:— Best bloom, Mrs Eager 1; Mrs Eklund I 2. Three plain biscuits, Mrs Eklund 1; Mrs Eager 2. Article from cello- I phane, Mrs Eager 1; Mrs S. Hunt 2. Supper was served by the hostesses Mesdames J. Wills, S. Hunt and Fielding. SEPTEMBER RAINFALL Only 2.50 inches of rain were recorded at Reefton in September. Of this 1.10 inches were recorded on one day, September 23. There were only nine rain days.
