CAMBER ON RUGBY PARK SUGGESTED TO IMPROVE DRAINAGE

A comprehensive report on the grounds at Rugby Park was received from Mr R. Cooper at the weekly meeting of the management committee of the West Coast Rugby Union held last evening. Mr Cooper referred to the lack of camber from the centre of the field to the side-lines which was responsible for surface water not draining away. He suggested that the ground be built up from the centre by top-dressing. The sowing of a selected grass seed mixture with a special fertiliser was recommended to provide a good turf surface.

It was decided that the ground committee would meet at Rugby Park this evening to decide what action would be taken.

Referee t And Injured Players Whether a referee should have the power to order a player to the side-line after an injury if in the referee’s opinion that player was unfit to continue was a question asked in a letter from the Southland Referees’ Association. The Association contended that under international rules where no replacements were ~ allowed, a player might continue in a match in an injured condition to his later detriment and sought the opinion of the West Coast Union.

It was decided to refer the question to the West Coast Referees’ Association before making a reply. Present at the meeting were:—Messrs F. W. Baillie (chairman), O. Scott (secretary), A. M. Jamieson, J. Webster, W. O. Blair, E. M. Todd, A. Agnew, M. R. Bunt, C. Neville and H. Clifford.
