EMPIRE GAMES ENTRIES LIKELY TO BE A RECORD

| AUCKLAND, This Day (P.A.).— I Entries for the Empire Games at I Auckland in February are likely to I be the biggest ever, according to the 'organising secretary, Mr C. L. Cleal. He said this today replying to suggestions from overseas that 'a shortjage of funds might prevent Empire ■ countries from sending full teams. Although the entries do not close until October 31, nine countries have already officially advised that they are sending teams totalling 349, plus officials. Mr Cleal stated that New Zealand’s expected 160 entries would take the total to 509, compared with the previous highest of 507 at the last games in Sydney in 1938. Seven other countries had reported that they are .sending teams, although the numj bers have not yet been stated.
