MEAT PIE ALLOWANCE
WELLINGTON, This Day (P.A.). —A clause -in the Licensed Hotel Workers’ Award puzzled the Arbitration Court today. i “Where workers have to sustain themselves on meat pies, they shall be paid an allowance of 2s a day,” read the clause. “1 bought some pies from a Government Department the other day and I think I should want at least 4s a day for eating them at ail,” commented Mr Justice Tyndall. Mr F. G. Young, ..secretary of the New Zealand Hotel Workers’ Federation, explained that the clause was for men working in racecourse bars. “1 know,’ but it reads rather well,” said his Honor.
