HOCKEY HIGH SCORING IN SATURDAY’S MATCHES

High scoring was a feature of hockey matched played at Greymouth on Saturday. The grounds were slightly bumpy but. otherwise in good order. The results were:— Cobden G v Pacific 2; Greymouth 8 v Rangers 0;- Harewood 4 v Greymouth 1; Cobden Combined 6 v Matchless 1. Greymouth outclassed Rangers to win 8-0 in a match in which both teams were not at full strength. Lunn (4), B. Newton (2), Kendon, and Weaver, scored for Greymouth. Cobden beat Pacific 6-2. S. Hill, M. Eatwell and R. Sumner each scored two goals for Cobden and W. Messenger and J. Knapp scored for Pacific. Harewood (Christchurch) 4 beat Greymouth in a friendly match in which superior stick work and positional play were the deciding factors for the visitors. In another friendly match Cobden Combined defeated Matchless (Christchurch) by 6-1.
