ALLEGED FAILURE TO PAY MAINTENANCE
Arrested at Dobson early this morning, Hugh Sarto Mulloy, aged 46, a mine labourer, of Taylorville, appeared before Mr E. O. Henry, J.P. in the Police Court at Greymouth today, charged with default under a maintenance order in favour of his wife and five children, the arrears to July 22 last amounting to £6B. Constable J. B. Jones said that the accused had been arrested at 8 o’clock by the Dobson police and a remand until Wednesday was desired. The maintenance order was made at Blenheim, but since May last the accused had been working as a labourer at the Dobson mine and was in receipt of approximately £2l a fortnight. The police would not object to bail, provided that it was substantial and a security was fixed. Mr W. D. Taylor, who appeared for the accused, offered no objection to the remand and made an application for bail. The remand until Wednesday was granted, bail being allowed in the accused’s own recognisance of £5O, with one surety of £5O.
