Quick March Is A Sound Stayer In Memorial Handicap

Some of the best handicap performers in the North Island will parade for the £l5OO Somes Memorial Cup at the Te Aroha Jockey Club’s meeting tomorrow. Logical favourite would seem to be Gollen but a strong challenge can be expected from Quick March. At his last start the Balloch gelding ran fourth over a mile, and his form last season suggested that he was a handicapper well above the average, as witness his win over Langham, Gay Stroller and others over one mile and a-half at Trentham in January. Methven Prospect In 12 starts last season the Jack Potts gelding Curiosity collected five wins and three placings. His first win was in the second division of the Ikamatua Handicap, of one mile and a quarter, at the Reefton meeting in December. It was a very easy win. Later in the afternoon, with a rehandicap of 24yds, he outclassed the field in the second division of the Cronadun Handicap, of one mile and a half, his winning margin being six lengths. Taken to the Greymouth meeting, Curiosity won three races—-

the first division of the Improvers’ Handicap, of one mile and five furlongs; the first division of the Intermediate Handicap, of 11 furlongs; and the Greymouth Trotting Club Handicap, of two miles, which he won by six lengths in the race record time of 4.29 1-5. He can be expected to race prominently at Methven, even though the company opposed to him will be the strongest he has yet met. Consistent Form The Springfield Globe five-year-. ■old, Mobile Globe, who is engaged at the Methven meeting on Saturday, raced consistently last season for two wins and eight placings in 19 starts.
