WELLINGTON, September 28.—Two brothers won national amateur boxing titles tonight when the finals of the New Zealand championships were fought. The new title-holders are: 1 fly, G. W. Broadhurst (Auckland); bantam, R. A. Broadhurst (Auckland); feather, W. Patterson (Hawke’s Bay); light, K. Anderson < Otago); welter, J. Mclvor (Hawke’s Bay): middle, H. Rush (Wellington); light-heavy, C. Rollinson (Auckland); heavy, F. Creagh (Wellington). J. Mclvor (Hawke’s Bay), lOst 31b, had to give of his best to retain his welter-weight title against a strongchallenge by the Ashburton boxer, J., Grant (10st‘61b), Mclvor early landed heavy rights and lefts, but Grant seemed to thrive on punishment, and proved he could use both hands to good effect. Mclvor’s superior experience and ringcraft helped him to wear his opponent down to such an extent /that the referee stopped the bout half-way through the,,third round. The final for the middle-weight title in which H. Rush (Wellington), list 5:,1b, out-pointed J. Thompson (Auckland), list 11b, was one of the most .thrilling contests of the evening. Rush scored well with both hands in the first round. Thompson did better in the second round and held his own in some willing exchanges. Both men were very tired as the round ended and had more respect for each other. In the last round, Rush brought his punches over faster and gained a clear- 1 cut victory. I The final of tne ligHt-heavy-weight title, which was won by C. Rollinson (Auckland), list 31b, resembeld burlesque more than a national final. W. Russell, the Canterbury veteran, who scaled list 1011 b, was the clown. Tn taking the fly-weight title. G. W. Broadhurst (Auckland), 7st 1111 b, mad? short work of C. Shanks (Southland), Bst. The contest lasted only 96sec. The Aucklander was much superior and put Shanks down for the full count with a left rip to the body. R. A. Broadhurst (Auckland), Bst 4ilb, was much too pugnacious for C. Smith (Taumarunui), Bst 3alb, in the bantam-weight final. The Aucklander fought with both hands in the first round, but was steadied with good rights to the head. Broadhurst continued to attack in the second round and put Smith down for eight with a left rip to the body. When he dropped Smith again, the referee stopped the contest. W. Patterson (Hawke’s Bay), Bst 131 b, retained his feather-weight title easily by beating D. Glozier Southland), Bst 1311 b, in the final. Keeping up a relentless attack, Patterson proved so superior that the referee stopped an unequal contest early in the second round. K. Anderson (Otago), 9st 4.Ub, took the lightweight title by giving R. Elley (Wellington), 9st 91b, a boxing lesson. He scored freely with straight lefts to the head, and occasionally brought over a fast right in the first two rounds. Realising he was well behind on points, Elley forced the pace in the last round, but the Otago man met him more than half-way, and won by a wide margin. In a special welter-weight contest over six two-minute rounds, M. McMillan (Waimate), lOst lilb, beat W. Ellery (Timaru), lOst, on points. In an exhibition bout, J. McAnally (Otago), Bst 12ilb, beat B. Collings (Oamaru), Bst 12ilb, over four rounds.
