Review Of Education Policy Is Requested
CHRISTCHURCH, This Day (P.A.).— Educational policy and expenditure m respect of intermediate schools were questioned at a meeting of the Canterbury Education Board t* l Stating that within the next few years the board would involve itself in an expenditure of approximately £500,000 on the proposed three or four additional intermediate schools in the Christchurch area, the chairman, Mr A. E. Lawrence, moved the following motion, which was carried: “That the attention of the Minister of Education be drawn to the large expenditure involved m the provision of intermediate schools being planned for Christchurch and that the Minister .be asked to consider the advisability of 'reviewing the aim of the intermediate school and to give consideration to the desirability of raising the status of these schools and their staffs, to ensure more definite continuity of educational processes by providing in intermediate schools two, three and, for some pupils, fouryear courses which will enable the staffs to assess more accurately the aptitudes of .the pupils going on to more advanced, education.”
