"Puzzling Optimism”
LONDON, September 20.—According to the Parliamentary correspondent of the Daily Mail,, the British Parliament is expected to meet next week for an emergency debate on the devaluation of sterling. “There is no surprise in this development,” adds the correspondent, “for both the Conservatives and the Liberals and many of the Socialists are puzzled by the continued optimism of the Chancellor of the Exchequer (Sir Stafford Cripps). They can see nothing in the Washington talks to justify his exuberance, particularly after such a. steep devaluation of the £, and theywant to know more.” ‘ •• ' >
