MILK COLLECTION BY TANKERS
Milk for the New Zealand Cooperative Dairy Company’s factory at Waitoa is' being collected by two 1500-gallon motor-tankers. This system, replacing the method of collecting milk in cans, is being tried for the first time in New Zealand, and the company proposes to build up a fleet of 60 tankers, serving the factories at Waitoa, Waharoa, Te Awamutu, and Matangi. Under the new system the tanker is backed into the area adjoining the farmer’s milk sheds and the milk is pumped direct from the shed container into the tank. Provision is made for the collection of samples.
, It is expected that the tankers will 'effect big savings in transport and manpower in handling milk cans at the factory. The company proposes to employ 3000-gallon as well as 1500-gallon tankers.
