AUSTRIAN CROWD SETS CAPTIVE OF RUSSIANS FREE
LONDON, August 22 (Rec. 1 p.m.). —The United Press Vienna correspondent says that British troops had to protect three Russian officers and their jeep driver today after an angry Austrian crowd had released an Austrian from the Russian jeep and placed him in a passing ambulance, according to an announcement by the Ministry of the Interior. The Austrian shouted for help when the Russian jeep pulled up m the British sector and sought directions to a suburb in the Russian sector. A car and a heavy lorry, driven by Austrians, were pulled in front of the jeep, while the crowd overwhelmed the Russians and released, their prisoner. ' The Viennese rescued from the boviet jeep said the Russians had beaten him day and night for a week. They had accused him of spying lor the Americans.
