BASHER GANG TACTICS IN SEAMEN’S STRIKE
AUCKLAND, This Day (P.A.).— The Canadian members of the freighter Ottawa Valley, which is held in Auckland harbour by the Canadian seamen’s strike, are not all enjoying their shore leave. A young Ottawa Valley seaman alleged that while awaiting a launch at the Admiralty steps on Monday night he was attacked by four members of another ship’s crew, who punched and kicked him. The same man was ‘again attacked in a city’ bar this morning. Ottawa Valley crew members at a city skating rink on. Monday night ■'were given police protection back to the wharves as a gang was allegedly awaiting them outside. . The Ottawa Valley seamen belong •to the Seafarers’ International Union, while the . Waikawa and Waihemo, which are now in Auckland, are manned by the dwindling and allegedly Communist-controlled Canadian Seamen’s Union,
