U.S. And Italian Service Leaders Hold Conference

BERLIN, August I.—Eight Italian service leaders discussed today with three United States Joint Chiefs of Staff Italy’s role in the North Atlantic Pact. The Italians, headed by Lieu-tenant-General Efisio Marras, met General Omar Bradley, Admiral Louis Denfeld, and General Hoyt Vandenberg. The meeting is believed to be the first since the end of the war in which American military leaders have conferred with a defeated Axis Power to discuss military cooperation. The United States chiefs also began talks today with military representatives of Luxembourg. A Norwegian military delegation will probably meet the American Chiefs of Staff in London.

Admiral Denfeld said that the American military chiefs’ delegation had reached a full understanding after the talks with the Italian and Luxembourg representatives on the organisation of the Atlantic Pact.
