BRITISH SOLDIERS ALLEGED TO HAVE STOLEN JEWELS
HAMBURG, August 2 (Rec. 11 a m.).. —Scotland -Yard has traced the British soldiers alleged to have stolen £30,000 worth of jewels from Glucksburg Castle in 1945, according to Prince Ferdinand Zu Holstein. The Prince said today that he had identified a gold watch and three pieces of not very jewellery as amongst those stolen from the castle. He said the jewels were missing from the historic castle near Flensburg after between 30 and 40 British soldiers had carried out a search in 1945. The soldiers claimed they were looking for Himmler, who was rumoured to be in the area, and ordered the family out during tl*e search of the castle, the Prince said. The jewels-belonged to the Grand Duchess of Mecklenburg. The family accepted compensation, but only under protest. Fifty-eight pieces were still missing. Reuter says that Scotland Yard is believed to have prepared a dossier for submission to the Director of Public Prosecutions.
