ST JOHN AMBULANCE TRAINING CENTRE: APPEAL FOR FUNDS
The Greymouth Division of the St John Ambulance Association is planning to erect a building in Greymouth which will provide a headquarters and training centre. The division states that with the pending inclusion of ambulance services as a social security benefit, the provision of such a headquarters is an imperative need. The Greymouth division, which will conduct an appeal for funds during the week-end, is willing to undertake additional voluntary service, but is alert to the need for adequate facilities for training an increasing number of cadets. It points out that sportsmen and women in every outdoor activity should welcome this opportunity to recognise the voluntary service provided by the brigade at sports grounds. The Grey Hospital Board has publicly recognised the valuable first-aid work of the division and has requested public support for its appeal. In the house-to-house canvas which members of the association will undertake this week-end it is hoped to raise the Ambulapce and Building Fund to £2OOO which is set as the target required for a suitable building.
