MOVE TO AMEND CONSTITUTION NOT CARRIED
The proposed amendment to the constitution of the West Coast Rugby Union to allow the Junior Advisory Board a direct representative on the management committee was defeated at an extraordinary general meeting of. the West Coast Rugby Union, hold last evening. The chairman (Mr F. W. Baillie), who introduced the subject, spoke briefly in favour of the amendment. Mr A. M. Jamieson stated that the Junior Advisory Board controlled some 30 of the 45 teams in the competitions, “Where a group of men is prepared to put in hours of voluntary work I consider that they should be allowed direct representation on the management committee,” he concluded. In this view he was supported by Mr H. Clifford. “The position might arise where a Junior Advisory Board representative might be instrumental in swaying the policy of the union in regard to the administration of senior football,” commented Mr O. Scott. Mr E. M. Todd stated that the board would always have representation on the management committee through the primary and secondary schools’ delegates, who were concerned with junior football, and through delegates to the union being also members of the board. The voting on the motion was 13 for and eight against the proposal, but as a 75 per cent, majority is required, the amendment was not carried.
