The 358 passengers were taken off yesterday without casualty. The two halves of the liner were partly submerged today and two Brazilian destroyers rushed up and threw lines. aboard for an attempt to tow the halves to. safety. The Magdalena is owned by Royal Mail ’ Lines., Late today the tugs succeeded in beaching the stern section of the Magdalena. It is hoped to salvage the bow section, which is still afloat, although partly submerged. All the 236 crew have been taken ashore.
