ELDERLY MAN DIES FROM WOUNDS

As a result of injuries, an elderly man died in his bedroom at a house at Blue Spur, Hokitika, early this morning. He was Edward (“Ned”) Brown, aged 6b years, single, a retired dredge worker. The deceased, who resided at the Railway hotel, Hokitika, for many years, had been staying at Blue Spur with his brothers, William and Patrick. About 6.30 this morning, he was found seriously wounded on the floor of his room. A razor was lying on the floor close by. The deceased, who is survived by three brothers, William, Patrick and Henry, of Hokitika, retired from his employment with the Rimu Dredging Coy, about six weeks ago. He had been in ill health for some time. An inquest was opened this afternoon and adjourned after evidence of identification had been given by a brother, Patrick Brown.
