SENATE ACCEPTS COMPROMISE ON AID TO EUROPE
WASHINGTON, April 14.
The House of Representatives and the Senate have approved a compromise worked out by the House and Senate foreign affairs leaders to authorise 5,430,000,000 dollars for the extension of the Marshall Plan, and an additional 150,000,000 dollars as a guarantee to American investors in Marshall Plan projects. Two days ago the House passed a bill approving an expenditure of 5,380,000,000 dollars. The Senate earlier had approved an expenditure of 5,580,000,000 dollars. The House also authorised an additional 273,300,000 dollars, as a guarantee to private American investors. The Senate version of the bill had no such provision. Senator Tom Connally, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, commenting on the compromise, said that the passage of the extension bill represented both generosity and far-reaching vision?
