Grant To Be Sought For Repairs To Brunner Bridge

The Brunner Borough Council is to seek a grant from the Mines Deparment towards thq cost of repairs to the Brunner bridge. The repairs, which are almost completed, have cost approximately £l4OO and they involved, among other work, the placing of new decking over the entire length of the structure. The decision to request the Mines Department to make a grant was made at a meeting of the Brunner Borough Council this week, and was the result of discussions held with the Minister of Mines (Mr A. McLagan) during his recent visit to the district.

The council decided to support a request from Stillwater residents for the installation of a public telephone in a central position in the township.

The Brunner Brass Band was granted permission to use the Wallsend hall for band practice on Sunday mornings. Building permits were granted to R. Leaker, T. Steel, and N. Reward.

' It was resolved that the registration fee for dogs for 1949 be 2s 6d for each dog kept solely for the purpose of herding or driving sheep or cattle, and 10s for any other dog. It was resolved that the 10 per cent, penalty be imposed on all rates which remain unpaid after March 21.

The town clerk was instructed to advise the manager of the N.Z.R. Road Services, Greymouth, that the council considered it inadvisable to shift Drummend’s light as .suggested. It was decided to engage the bulldozer now 'working out Dobson domain for work on Omapeve and Ohau streets Dobson.
