AMERICAN PLANES EQUIPPED TO DROP ATOM BOMBS

WASHINGTON. March 10. Officials of the United States Air Force revealed tonight that the Air Force has several long-range bomber groups specially trained and equipped for dropping atom bombs. The disclosure came from aii announcement of routine overseas training schedules for Superfortress groups which are based in England. General Hoyt S. Vandenberg, Chief of the Air Staff, said that two or three Superfortress bomber groups would be kept in England in training status for at least the remainder of 1949. The two groups now there would be replaced, by three others during the next three months. The training period abroad is three months. Each group has 30 bombers. An Air Force spokesman said that the aircraft carried guns, but that no American bombs were stored m England.
