FRIESIAN HERD FOR SOUTH AFRICA.— Forty young animals, the property of Mr Horace Hale, of Oxted, Surrey, who retained them from his world-famous Friesian herd which he sold last month for nearly £70,000, are now being shipped to South Africa to start a new herd at the Frogmore Estate, 60 miles from Salisbury, Southern Rhodesia. Mr H. Ian Hale, son of Mr Horace Hale, who has gone to South Africa with his wife and two sons, made a trip to Africa in 1947 and saw the possibilities the country offered. It was not until last summer that he was introduced to Mr J. Kapnek, millionare owner of the Frogmore Estate, who invited him to take a half share in the estate and develop the 12,000 acres of scrubcovered land on the most up-to-date lines of general farming. Some of the calves are seen looking out from their new and unusual Quarters on the deck of the s.s. Culcross at the Royal Albert Docks, London.
