Waiuta Mine Is To Resume Work On Monday

After being idle since February 18 last, when a fall occurred in the south shaft, cutting the underground ventilation system, the Waiuta gold mine, operated by Blackwater Mines Ltd., will resume production on Monday.

~ The repairs to the damaged shaft are not quite completed, but are sufficiently advanced to permit-the opening of the shaft and thus the resumption of normal, operations underground.

For the first week after the damage to the shaft, the company continued to employ the lull mine staff, although work was not possible in the stopes. Later, however, over 20 of the men were temporarily taken off the payroll and were found work •on the eradication of ragwort, under the direction of the Inangahua County Council. These men will return to the mine on Monday.
