KING’S RANSOM’S FAST TRIAL AT TRENTHAM

(P.A.) WELLINGTON, March 10. A dense fog prevented the timing of most of the gallops at Trentham. Of the horses timed, King’s Ransom excelled over a mile and Excellency and Citril worked brilliantly over five furlongs. The outside of the course proper provided ideal going. Lord Revel and Tauloch were together at the end of five furlongs, with a gap to Gollen, which failed to jump away on terms. Both Lord Revel and Tauloch worked impressively. Royal Tan beat Langham by three lengths, with another four lengths to Liebcstraum over a mile in 1.45. There was no pace on early, but speeded up from the half-mile. Royal Tan should run well in the President’s Handicap. King’s Ransom ran a mile in 1.42, the best time for the distance in training at Trentham for some time.

Corofin shaded Full Play over five furlongs, the last four taking 50sec. Full Play was under a good hold at the end.

Citril finished a long way ahead of Golden Spa at the end of five furlongs in 1.3 1-5, the last four in 48 l-ssec. It was Citril’s best performance during her present visit, and she may be regaining form. Golden Spa is a lazy track worker. He is to race in the North Island Challenge Stakes, and will be ridden by Broughton at one stone over-weight. Gold Lad jumped away from the mile four lengths in front of Tanjeen, and increased his advantage to 10 lengths passing the post in 1.45 3-5, the last half in 52 4-5. It was a useful effort for a hurdler.

Abbotsford did not have to do his best to run half a mile in 53sec. The Hob took 52 2-ssec, under a strong hold. Excellency travelled freely over five furlongs in 1.3 1-5. She ran the last half-mile in 50sec.

Vane Master, which ran promisingly on the opening day, ran five furlongs in 1.5, the last half-mile in 50 4-ssec. The Grate was half a length in front of Frances at the end of a mile in 1.43, the last half taking 51 3-ssec. Frances got down on her heels during the gallop. Smart Two-year-old

Latest juvenile to come into prominence is Lord Foxbridge, who, at his second start, trounced a good field of more seasoned two-year-olds in the Plunket Nursery Handicap at Trentham last Saturday. A fine-look-ing black colt, Lord Foxbridge ran third at his first start in the Putaruru Stakes at Matamata on February 5, and, although he ran greenly on that occasion, was very impressive. Last Saturday's win was achieved in effortless fashion, as he ran away in the straight to win by four lengths in the very smart time for a juvenile over six furlongs in 1.11-4-. Lord Foxbridge is bred to gallop well and may prove very good. His dam, Lady Buchan, was by Mr Standfast from Callisto, a full-sister out of Prodice to the brililant Gallio and a halfsister to Te Hero and Te Hinemoa. Prodice was from Hyades, dam of Ammon Ra.
