HOKITIKA HOSPITAL BOARD’S NEW BUILDING PROJECTS

The Westland Hospital Board decided this week to expedite work On the matron’s quarters at the hospital, following receipt from the Health Department of approval of the sketch plans. Tentative sketch plans for improvements, alterations and additions to the lavatory and laundry block arid the engirieer’s workshop were considered and it was decided to seek the Health Department’s approval of them. Sketch plans for male quarters arid lor a cottage at the old people’s home will also be forwarded to the department for approval. After discussion of a letter from the New. Zealand Wholesale Merchants’ Federation on the purchase of hospital supplies, it was decided to buy as riiuch as possible through local-suppliers. A mdtiori of sympathy was passed with the relatives of Mr A. Mosley (chairman of the Grey Hospital Board), whose death occurred this week.

The following reports were approved:— Matron: Patients remaining January 31, 1949, 38; admitted in February 59; total treated 97; discharged in February 52; deaths 1; patients remaining February 28 44; average number of occupied beds 44; nuriiber of operations 24; number of X-rays 130.

Maternity hospital:—Patients admitted 16; patients discharged 17; patients in hospital on February 1, 1949! 7; patients remaining in hospital on February 28, 6.

Farm productions for February: — milk, 504 gallons; cream, 252 pints; pigs sold, five, (£29 16s sd); cream supplied to factory, £22 19s 9d; eggs used in institution, 91doz.
