LITTLE ACTIVITY WITH GRANDIOSE TEN-YEAR PLANS

AUCKLAND, February 25. “While not raising a parochial issue on the merits of Wellington and Auckland, I am bound to say that Auckland does not appear to be receiving public expenditure commensurate with its growth.” This comment was made by the leader of the Opposition (Mr S. G. Holland) in an interview today. “Most schemes for public works here seem to be in grandiose 10-year plans and such like, but one does not notice much active work being done.” Mr Holland said he was looking for himself, so that he would be prepared for any changes that might come about in the near future. “What we will have to face up to is the need for more man-hours of work,” Mr Holland added. Otherwise the public development of Auckland will not be able to keep pace with the natural development.
