SPORTING Lillian Mac In Form For Victoria Park

Lillian Mac, who will be racing in the events for unhoppled trotters at the Greymouth Trotting Club’s meeting at Victoria Park during the coming week-end, gave an attractive display of trotting to win the 3.37 class trot at the Canterbury Owners’ and Breeders’ trials at Addington yesterday. She recorded 3.45 for the full journey and the last mile and a half occupied 3.24 1-5. A f’our-ycar-okl mare by Desmond’s Pride from Prestigna, Lillian Mac is owned by Mrs M. Becker, for whom she js trained by C. Bryce. This mare has shown considerable promise since she was put into training, and once she develops solidity she is likely to become, a good winner.

At the Addington matinee meeting yesterday. Lillian Mac was rather ■dcrw to become balanced but once on the way she showed a lot of speed to take over the running at the end of half a mile from Rakautika, High Stakes, Jimmy Wharton, Who Knows and Pat,Review. She carried the field along at a good pace and lasted long enough to win by half a length from High Stakes, with Raukautika, .Jimmy Wharton and Pat Review next.

High Stakes, a six-year-old gelding by Gamble from Bingen Reel, who ran second to Lillian Mac yesterday, is also engaged at Greymouth. Se is owned by Mr C. Sisson and is trained by A. Leggett. Fine Performance

Acclamation was the outstanding performer at the matinee meeting at Addington yesterday when the daughter of Certissimus and Raclaim won the 3.47 class trot in 3.34, after giving away starts up to 60 yards. She came the last mile in 2.7 2-5 and thel ast half in 1.1 3-5. Excalibur was second and Jimmy Dillon and Fantom filled the next two places. Acclamation was only three times out of a place in 14 starts last season and won four tindes. She is likely to have another highly successful season.

Artificer Unlucky The Lang Bian—Hest gelding, Artificer, was a shade unlucky in the second division of the Spring Handicap at Ellerslie last Saturday, being squeezed back a little in the last few strides to be awarded third place behind Silver Lighting and Huntore, with noses between the three of them in a thrilling finish. Ascot Lad scored a well merited win in the first division, staying on too well for the remainder.

Grattan Drive in Form Grattan Drive put up an excellent performance at Addington when she won the 2.42 pacing class from In the Mood and Integrity at the matinee meeting at Addington yesterday. She was well placed all the way and came awav in the straight. The first mile took 2.8. In the Mood pleased by the manner in which she ran the last half in 1.3 3-5.

Improving Galloper Following his fourth to Wonder Boy Iwo Jima and Prince Chat on the first day of the Auckland meeting, Bustany made a bold bid to take the Liverpool Handicap from Iwo Jima at Ellerslie last Saturday. The Foxbi-idge gelding was fairly well back in seventh place turning for

home, but he unwound a determined finishing run which. carried him to within a neck of Iwo Jima at the post. Bustany should soon reach the winning list for owner R. Nolan and trainer F. McManemin. Last season Bustany won two races, both over a mile and he has shaped like a potential stayer.

Wanganui Appeal The Wanganui District Committee yesterday heard the appeal of Dr L. Randcll, owner of Tilting, against the decision of the Wanganui Jockey Club s judicial committee, in allowing the judge’s placings to stand in the Marangai Handicap at the spring meeting in which Conspiracy beat Tilting by a nose. After hearing the evidence of the parties concerned the district committee announced that, though there was accidental interference by Conspiracy with Tilting, it was not considered sufficient to affect the result. They therefore dismissed the appeal.—(P.A.)
