FISHING LAUNCH REPORTED MISSING OFF WELLINGTON
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, October 19. A 30ft Diesel launch which left Island Bay about 11.30 this morning for the Karori light had not reached its destination late tonight. The only person aboard is the owner, Mr Ronald Heal, of Island Bay, who intended to set fishing nets. Mr Heal’s brother who notified the police, said the missing man was an experienced launchman and had made the trip several times. A launch was seen from Cape Terawhiti about 12.30 p.m. and has not been seen again. It was thought likely that it was Mr Heal’s boat. Though it is possible that the launch encountered heavy winds and that Mr Heal put into Oterongu Bay, north of Cape Terawhiti, for shelter, fears are felt for his safety. It is also possible that the launch had engine trouble and drifted in strong northerly winds. , Arrangements are being made lor a search to-morrow morning should no further word be received of the launch. .
