NATIONALIST TROOPS WIN IMPORTANT BASE IN MANCHURIA
(Rec 11.30 a.m.) SHANGHAI, October 18.
Sebring one of their most strategically important victories in Manchuria in recent months the Nationalist forces today captured the railway hub of Sinlitum, 70 miles west of Mukden and 80 miles north-east of Chinchow, less than 24 hours after launching a two-pronged drive on the city. The recapture of Chinchow, the key Manchurian corridor city, which fell to the Communists three days ago, is expected at any moment, according to <a Ministry of National Defence bulletin. Government relief columns are only 10 kilometres away.
