REEFTON NEW MINISTER FOR THE WESLEY CHURCH
(0.C.) REEFTON, This Day. The Rev E. Baker, who has been appointed minister of Wesley Church, Reefton, will arrive on Thursday, and will be inducted to his new charge that evening. He will conduct his first services at Reefton on Sunday. The Rev F. Trim, who will be succeeded by Mr Baker left today for Lyttelton. COAL OUTPUT The output from the Reefton district coal mines for the week ended October 14 was 1937 tons. This tonnage was consigned from the Reefton railway station and does not include household coal for the Reefton district. MINING EXAMINATIONS The holding at Reefton of the annual examinations for senior division students under the Coal Mines Act, and also examinations for electric wiremen’s certificates was reported by the director (Mr W. J. Bolitho) at the October meeting of the council of the Reefton School of Mines. In the coal mining tests five students sat for first class certificates and one for a second class certificate. There were also two entrants for metal managers’ certificates. Two students sat for the wiremen’s certificate.
The report showed that Reefton had 24 students attending classes in 10 separate sets of subjects, Wallsend seven students, Blackball five and Waiuta two. The assays for the month were four —one bullion test and three quartz samples.
