Chifley Says “Some Strikes A Disgrace”

SYDNEY, October 17. In the Trades Hall, Sydney, the Commonwealth Prime Minister (Mi Chifley) told 140 delegates of Federal trale unions that their first task was to increase production. He added that he did not always see why men went on strike, and that some strikes were a disgrace to the trade union movement. “There are many difficulties ana grievances in a union from time to time,” he said. “I repeat to-day that I think it is a disgrace to the trade union movement that, when there are differences between unions, they cannot find some way of settling ’their disputes without depriving the community of essential things.
