U.S.-TRAINED TROOPS BREAK COMMUNIST BLOCKADE IN CHINA
(Rec. 2 p.m.) SHANGHAI, October 17.
Powerful American-trained Government reinforcements have broken the Communist blockade and bypassed Tashan and Kaokiao in a northward march to the relief of the Manchurian corridor city of Chinchow. . .. ~ An official communique said the Chinchow garrison was .still clinging to its defence position within the old walled city under continuous Communist onslaughts. Marshal Chiang Kai-shek reached Peiping after a hurried trip from Nanking. It was Marshal Chiang’s second flight to North China within a fortnight. His journey is viewed in Shanghai as underlying the seriousness of the war situation in the Liaoning* corridor, with far-reaching consequences for Manchuria and North China. -
