Dances At Gladstone

Sir,— Obviously . “Parent” who wrote a letter published recently places very little value on advertising. He spoke of the amenities winch the people of Gladstone enjoy, but fails that through good advertising these were obtained arid rhaintained. The hall at Gladstone is the only source of income we have at presOht and any function held there has to be amply advertised. Certainly at a recent ball several men were caught With drink in their possession. This, when the charges were published, was a bad advertisement, but when one of our own local residents also picks up the cry, it’s too much for me to understand. In order to conduct a ball at Gladstone, the advertising runs as high as £lO. Now “Parent” has ruined all hopes of d future successful ball through his letter which cost him nothing. After all, his letter was directed at the patrons who have had one or two drinks, and it is the general public we cater for here at the dances, not solely for the non-drinkers or local residents. Except in a few cases, the local residents offer.very little co-operation, and so We must take and appreciate what comes. I hope the dancing public do not take offence at the letter published last week and continue to give us their support as the letter in question was written, as I- see it, by a “snag”—one any district is likely to have.—Yours, etc., M. D. EMMERSON. Gladstone, October 15.
