TIMBER WORKERS RE-APPOINT CHIEF OFFICERS

No elections will, be necessary for official positions in the Westland Timber Workers’ Union for the next 12 months. At the annual meeting which was held at Hokitika on Saturday, only the required number of nominations Avere received for the various positions. The president, Mr J. Reedy, and the secretary, Mr F. L. Turley, were both declared re-elected, unopposed. Mr Turley has occupied the position of secretary continuously since the formation of the union in 1918.

The following officers were declared re-elected or elected at the meeting:—President, Mr J. Reedy (re-elected); vice-president, Mr F. Rudkin (re-elected); secretary, Mr F. Turley (re-elected); committee, south of Greymouth, Messrs J. Comport, G. A. Oates and W. Laurence; committee, north of Greymouth, Messrs J. Craig and P. Rodgers, with another member to be recommended by members within the area; delegates to West Coast Trades Council, Messrs J. Reedy, F. Rudkin, J. Comport and C. Elley; delegates to Westland Labour Representation Committee, Messrs E. Elley and E. J. Johnson; trustees, Messrs E. J. Johnson and K. Ogilvie; auditor, Mr H. J. AVicks.

It was decided to hold a banquet in the near future to mark the completion of 30 years’ activities by the union and to make a presentation to the secretary, Avho has been associated Avith the union throughout its history.
