Mrs Ball Leads, Six Up, For N.Z. Golf Title

With a lead of six holes, Mrs J. Ball (Wanganui) appeared to be in an unassailable position at the conclusion of the first 18 holes in the final of the New Zealand 7 women’s golf championship” against Miss H. Buchanan (Christchurch) ,at Hokowhitu this morning. Large pools of casual water greeted the finalists on practically every green. It was necessary for the players to shift their balls around the water. '
Only four of the first 18 holes were played in fine weather. On the remaining holes there was steady rain, which at times was very heavy.
Neither Mrs Ball nor Miss Buchanan was able to produce her best form under the conditions. Mrs Ball was, however, the more impressive of the two. Miss Buchanan, who until this morning has never been far from the line, was not playing her shots well and many drifted into bunkers. In the final of the New Zealand Plate, Mrs D. A. Crombie (Wellington) beat Miss C. Smith, Invercargill, 1 UP-
