Conditions In Soviet Zone
(Rec. 1 p.m.) LONDON, October 11. In a section on the Soviet policy in the Eastern zone of Germany, the British White Paper on the Berlin crisis asserts that “within the Soviet zone the population is not accorded freedom of speech or information. The judiciary is not independent and thousands of people, including children, have been arbitrarily arrested and confined in concentration camps within the Soviet zone or deported to the Soviet Union. Skilled workers have also been forcibly removed to the Soviet Union.
“In addition the Soviet authorities have used pressure and discrimination against all political parties who oppose the Socialist Unity Party, which is under Communist control.”
