BEAU LE HAVRE — TAULOCH

Ellerslie Prospects For Tomorrow'

With the Mitchclwii Cep Handicap. of £2250. and the Great Northern Guineas as tfae feature events, the Auckland Racing Club’s spring meeting will open ar Ellerslie tomorrow, with big. fields in-all the events. The Welcome Stakes, for two-year-olds, will also attract a lot of interest. The ruling favourites for the Mitchelson Cup are Beau le Havre, having his second race for.the season, but burdened with 9.12; Double Chance, an impressive winner at Avondale last month; and Valley Boy, a rather unlucky second, at Te Aroha last week. ■ There are a number of other good handicappers in the field, however, and it woidd not be surprising to-find the winner coming from-some of those in the middle of the handicap.

•Beau ie Havre’s ability to master ■the 12-iurlong journey at this stage of the season has to be taken on trust, but it is fairly safe to assume that trainer J. G. Farrell .would not undertake the trip to Auckland if he did not have his charge ready to race. There would be little to gain by racing the champion under such a big weight if he were not thoroughly attuned. Other horses in the. field with good recent form include Ascot Lad, which always runs a good race; Conspiracy and Cowper, while Star Performer showed promise of reaching top form by finishing impressively last week into fifth place at Te Aroha. The brilliant Balloch colt, Tauloch, is likely to see a very short price in the Great Northern Guineas. He won the Avondale Guineas last month with his ears pricked and it will take a particularly good one to down him. The probable favourites for the

Welcome Stakes are Lady Zenib'and Gay Cushla, who have had a win apiece in their two starts to dateLy The following horses should be .well supoprte'd:— Gordon Handicap.—First division: Lachatrey, Kind Regards, Silver Secret. Second - div: Vice-Chancellor, Akbar, Lanseair. ■ f | Trial. ■■ Hack - Hurdles.—Golden Reign, Flying Jim, Master Ted. ' Great Northern Guineas/ —Taiiloch, Rizzio, Gay Coronach. Shorts Handicap.—Master Coronach, Chatscourt, Coonbridge. Mitchelson Cup.—Beau le Havre, Double Chance, Valley Boy. Hunters’ Steeples.— Murphy, Flying Attack, Spirillum. Welcome Stakes.—First div: Lady Zenib, Gold Script. Second div: Gay Cushla, Denebridge. Flying Handicap.—First div: Wonder Boy, Prince Chat. Second div: Aggravation, Brockton.
