(P.A.) . PALMERSTON N„ This Day.

Cool, blusterly conditions prevailed when match play in the New Zealand women’s golf championships at Hokowhitu was commenced this morning.

Playing indifferent golf over the first nine holes against Miss Mclntyre (Wanganui), Miss G. W. Hollis (Titirangi) was 1 down at the turn. The Wanganui player was 2 up after four holes, but Mrs Hollis took the fifth in six to seven. Miss Mclntyre was out in 44 and Mrs Hollis in 45. Miss Mclntyre then struck trouble and lost three holes in succession. The 13th was halved in fives and the end .came after Mrs Hollis had w° n the 4th and. 15th.

Mrs A. McFadyen (Eltham) was no match for Mrs J. Cliff (Manawatu), the latter winning 7 and 6. A match which ended at the 19th was that between Mrs C. McCormick (New Plymouth) and Miss E. M. Nutt (Christchurch). Miss J. Duncan (Wanganui) eliminated Mrs J. E. Salisbury (Invercargill) at the 16th. Miss Duncan was 1 up at the turn, which she reached in 41 against her opponent’s 43.
