Personal Effects Lost
While they were being shown the sights of Auckland from the summit of Mount-Eden yesterday afternoon four girls from the ballet of the Cicely Courtneidge Company had their handbags, containing £2B in money and personal belongings, stolen from the car. The girls are Misses G. Mack and D. Spry, of Sydney, and F. Thompson and L. Wilt shire, of Melbourne. Among the articles stolen were the keys of the girls’ hotel rooms, fountain pens, and compacts. One also reported that she had lost her pair of false eyelashes, which she used on the stage.—-(P.A.)
Conservative Candidates’ Expenses Four thousand Conservative delegates at the party’s biggest annual conference held at Llandudno, decided that constituency associations should not demand large subscriptions from Parliamentary candidates.. Speakers said the constituency associations had demanded that prospective candidates must guarantee half their election expenses. That had meant that only persons oi means could stand for election to Conservative seats—London, October 7.
