“HIGHER-UPS HAVE MADE A MESS OF THINGS”

(P.A.) DUNEDIN, This Day. “These chaps away up, the higherups who make wars, have .made a mess of things,” said Mr Warren Bardsley, secretary of the Wellington chamber, at the conference of the New Zealand Junior Chambers of Commerce which began this morning. Mr Bardsley was referring to the value of fostering friendship between individual persons in different countries especially by letters exchanged between pen friends. “Movements such as our own and Rotary can help' to stop this business,” said Mr Bardsley. “If we can bring foreigners to New Zealand for a conference of the Junior Chamber International, it cannot but help to do a lot of good.” The conference considered a proposal to apply for the 1950 international conference, but further discussion was deferred till tomorrow.
