FOR FARMERS Fat Cattle Prices Are Easier At Addington Market

(PA.) CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. Fat cattle were yarded in heavy numbers, and prices for most classes of choice beef were £1 easier at the Addington Market yesterday. Spring lambs sold at prices a few shillings in advance Of last week, in spite of a bigger entry. Choice fat wethers maintained recent rates in the fat sheep section, but all other* classes were up to 4s easier. All classes of fat pigs met an excellent sale, with values appreciating sharply. STORE SHEEP.—In the main, the quality was good but the demand was slack and sales were slow. Hoggets were 2s and 2s 6d cheaper and ewes and lambs fully 2s. Top price for ewe hoggets in wool ' was 455, and another lot made 445. A pen of woolly wether hoggets made 44s 9d. The top price for shorn wether hoggets was 40s, foi\ a well grown line in forward condition.; The best made 35s to 40s; medium 29s to 325; others down to 255. SPRING LAMBS. —The entry of 210 was the biggest of the season. The sale started slowly, and then prices appre-

dated sharply by 6s, and towards the end receded by 3s to 4s. Values were: Extra prime spring lambs to 61s Id; prime 50s to 565; good 45s to 495; medium 40s to 445; light 36s to 395. FAT HOGGETS. —In spite of the big' entrv, buyers bid freely for the best at prices 2s higher than last week. There was little inquiry for the lighter sorts. Values were: Extra prime fat hoggets, to 62s Id; prime fat hoggets, 48s to 525; good fat hoggets, 42s to 465; medium fat hoggets, 36s to 40s; light fat hoggets, 31s to 355. FAT SHEEP—The quality was fairly good, although not .up to the high standard of recent sales. The sale opened steadily with prices for all classes on a par with last week, but after the first two or three races choice wethers were the only' sheep in keen demand. At times competition from .he West Coast and South Canterbury rssisted the demand for plainer- sheep. Values were: Extra prime heavy vethers, to 72s Id; prime heavy wethers, 14s to 68s; prime medium-weight vethers, 56s to 635; ordinary wethers, LBs to 545; plain and unfinished vethers, 40s to 465; prime heavy ewes, o 49s Id; prime ewes, 36s to 40s; nedium ewes, 30s to 355; ordinary •wes, 20s to 295; plain and unfinished xrrac 99c in 9nQ

FAT CATTLE. —The entry of 690 was the biggest for several weeks. Choice steers and heifers were about 20s easier, and cows a shade cheaper. Best beef made to .70s per 1001 b, with a few sales at 72s 6d; good 52s 6d to 60s; medium 45s to 50s: best cow to 555; secondary to 42s 6d. Values were: Extra prime heavy steers to £3B 17s 6d; prime heavv £24 to £26; prime medium weight £2o‘to £24; ordinary and light £l6 to £l9; extra prime heifers, to £25 2s 6d; prime £l4 10s to £lB 10s; ordinary and light £lO to £l3 10s. Extra prime cows to £24 7s 6d; prime £l3 to £l7; ordinary and light £8 to £l2. West Coast sales included:—!?. Williams (Weheka), 8 steers at £29 12s 6d to £32 7s 6d; W. A. Jamieson (Koiterangi). 4 steers at £29 7s 6d. 4 heifers at £22 17s 6d; F. Wall (Harihari), 6 steers at £2B 2s 6d, 2 cows at £l9 2s 6d to £l9 12s 6d; p J. Nolan (Wataroa), 7 steers at £23 2s 6d to £27 12s 6d; G. Perry (Evan's Creek), 8 steers at £25 2s 6d to £26 7s 6d. ... VEALERS.—QuaIity was again mixed.

STORE CATTLE.—The store cattle entry was the largest for many months. The demand for adult cattle showing some condition was good, and quite nip : to that of recent markets, but younger cattle were hard to sell, and were cheaper than they were last week. Among the quotable lines were 14 three and four-year Hereford steers at £l6 13s 6d, 13 Aberdeen Angus twoyear steers at £lB 3s 6d, 21 Aberdeen Angus-Shorthorn two-year steers at £l6 15s to £l6 17s 6d, 38 two-year Aberdeen -Angus-Hereford cross steers at £l5 10s to £l7. 26 of the same age and

breeding at £l2 4s to £l3 13s 6d. DAIRY CATTLE.—The yarding was typical of that of sales during the last six months. Except for one crossbred third claver, buyers were offered little of note. Prices returned to the depressed values of a fortnight ago. One cow sold at £25 J . but apart from that the best made £l4 ro £l7, with others down to £6. The inquiry for heifers was even slacker. FAT PIGS—The yarding of porkers was of medium size, and competition , from the outset was very keen. Values were: Light porkers, £4 9s 6d to £4 17s 6d; medium porkers, £4 19s 6d to £5 8s . 6d; heavy porkers, £5 11s 6d to £6 8s 6d;

choppers, £6 7s 6d to £ll Is; light baconers, £6 12s 6d to £6 17s 6d; medium bacdners, £6 19s 6d to £7 4s 6d; heavy baconers, £7 7s 6d to £7 14s 6d; extra heavy baconers, £7 18s 6d to £8 9s 6d. Average price per lb, lO.ld to 102 d. STORE PIGS—A fairly large yarding- of store pigs came forward and the sale for large stores was the best for several years. Values were: Weaners. 42s to 50s; slips, 56s to 625; small stores, 64s to 70s; medium stores, 75s to 84s; large stores, 85s to 98s.
