MORE THAN 300,000 FRENCH MINERS IDLE

LONDON October 5

More than 300.000 French miners are affected by the large-scale strikes. Work has virtually ceased not only in the coal mines, but in the Lorraine iron mines, the potash mines in AJsace, and some of the bauxite mines in the south of France. The Government as the owner of the mines, has collected and stored pneumatic drills and has removed supplies of oil. Two hundred pit ponies have been placed on a stud farm. Householders in Paris are filling baths, basins, and pails with water to combat the waterworks employees’ strike.
