NEW PRESIDENT FOR PROGRESS LEAGUE: MR TAYLOR RETIRES

President of the Westland Progress League since its formation four years ago, Mr W. D. Taylor is not seeking re-election, and, when nominations for the position closed last evening, that of Mr G. R. Harker, was the only one received. Mr Harker, who was nominated by Mr Taylor, will take office at the annual meeting next week. Mr Taylor will become immediate past president, filling this seat on the executive for the first time since the league’s inception. Another change on the executive will be the appointment of Mr F. A. Kitchingham to the position of vicepresident, replacing Mr J. M. Bunt, who is not seeking re-election. The three executive officers, Messrs J. B. Bluett, T. Pratt and J. Saunders have also been re-nominated and will be elected unopposed. At the final meeting last evening of the present council of the league, tributes were paid to the work of the retiring president, Mr Taylor. It was stated that much of the credit for the success achieved by the organisation was due to him. The speakers included Messrs E. W. Green and A. J. Rooney (Hokitika), G. R. Harker and J. Saunders. Mr Taylor in reply said that the success of the league was due to the fact that all members, including those from Hokitika as well as Greymouth, had pulled together.
