Lion Cub Escaped But Circus Band Played On
(Recd. 9 a.m.) LONDON, Aug. 22. A two-year-old lion cub named Goldilocks caused consternation among the audience of 2500 at a Southend circus when it scrambled under the barrier protecting the arena and leaped upwards among the tiers of seats. Women and children screamed and some fainted when circus attendants pursued the lion and there was a rush for the exits. Finally Goldilocks took refuge under a high tier of scats, but was finally coaxed out and shooed back into the arena. Throughout this unscheduled performance the band continued to play the “Gladiators’ March.”
