The women’s championship was won by Mrs M. Matheson (Dunedin Railway) and Mrs J. Bradley (Barnetts) was next.—(P.A.)

Rehearing Of Eastgate Inquiry

A partal rehearing of the inquiry into the grounding of the motor-ves-sel Eastgate at New Plymouth on May 31 has been approved by the Minis-' ter of Marine (Mr F. Hackett). If will be held before a Supreme Court-judge and two new assessors and will be held at New Plymouth if possible. The: New Plymouth Harbour Board asked for the rehearing because it consdired some of the findings at the original inquiry were a miscarriage of justice in their reflection on the board and the harbourmaster (Captain O. F. Mclntyre).—(P.A.)

“Honesty” Boxes “Honesty” boxes to enable passengers to pay fares not collected by conductors are to be placed on all Auckland trams. This was decided at a meeting of the Auckland Tianspoii. Board yesterday, when the manager (Mr C. R. Gribble), reporting on tests, estimated that the boxes would provide a net annual revenue of £690. The average daily revenue from trial boxes on straight shift cars was 3d and on broken shift cars 2d, said Mr Gribble. These amounts appeared very low, but they represented a potential annual gross revenue ol about £l4OO if all trams were fitted with boxes. From this should be deducted the cost of collection, say £416 a year, and £294 as a proportion of the-cost of the boxes. As this was revenue the board could not otherwise expect to obtain, he recommended that boxes be fitted to all trams. —(P.A.) _____
