RUGBY LEAGUE Blackball Unbeaten In One-round Series

Reaching peak form at a time when most of the other teams seem to he feeling the effects of a hard season, Blackball maintained an unbeaten record in the West Coast Rugby League’s senior one-round competition, which was completed yesterday, and won the competition by two points from Marist, which suffered one defeat. Blackball's final victory in the competition yesterday, over Cobden. was overwhelming, but results in the other two senior games were close. Xeaiiere went close to bringing off a major surprise in its match against Runanga at Wingham Park, and. Hokitika proved that there w.t. merit in its two recent successes by going under to Marist by only five point

Easily the biggest form upset yesterday. however, was in the senior reserve grade, in which Marist beat Brunner by 1G points to 12. Before the game, Brunner held the unique record of net having its line crossed for the season, but in an excellent game at Wingham Park Marist scored i cur tries to lower the colours of the champions. Weather conditions were again perfect for football and the grounds, with one or two exceptions, were in excellent order. There were fair attendances at the principal matches. Results in all grades were as follows: —

Senior: Runanga 10, Ngahere 8; Marist 5, Hokitika nil; Blackball 51, Cobden 15. Senior Reserve: Marist 16, Brunner 12: Blackball 12, Cobden 8; Rapahoc 30, Runanga 8; Lake Brunner 19, Ngahere nil. Third Grade: Marist 16, Brunner 5; Blackball 14, Hokitika fourth grade 2. Fourth Grade: Marist 10, Cobden 7; Runanga 18, Kohinoor 10. Fifth Grade: Kohinoor 40, Marist 2; Blackball 27, Hokitika nil. Runanga 57, Brunner nil. Seventh Grade (Championship final): Marist A 18, Brunner nil. Ninth Grade: Blackball 5, Cobden 3; Brunner 2, Runanga nil.

Bernard made no mistake with the kick. Territorially, Ngahere held the upper hand for the remainder of the spell but there was no further scoring, the final being, Runanga 10—Ngahere 8. Mr J. Griffin was referee.
