Republicans Pass Own Anti-Inflation Bill
WASHINGTON. August 7.
The Republican-controlled Congress adjourned its 13-day special session tonight amid extreme political bitterness. The special session ignored most of Mr Truman’s requests, including those for price control and rationing authority, and accused him of seeking “police State” powers. The Republicans wrote their own anti-inflation bill—a revival of the war-time curbs on instalment buying and increased* bank reserves. The only other action taken by Congress was the approval of a loan to the United Nations for the construction of its headquarters in New York.
