INADEQUATE PLANS FOR MIGRANTS: CONFERENCE URGED
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Recent cabled advice that over 40,000 British people intend migrating to New Zealand led to the executive of the Dominion Settlement and Population Association deciding by resolution to urge the Government to call immediately a national conference to formulate emergency plans to provide suitable reception and accommodation “for this much-desired influx of new settlers.”
The executive says that as no provision is being made to house such a large number of people it feels deeply concerned over the prospective chaos that would ensue.
The resolution has been sent to the Prime Minister, Mr Fraser, by Mr A. Leigh Hunt, president of the association.
