(P.A.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The Minister of Civil Defence (Mr Jones) said that no definite proposal had come before him for a flying-boat base at Evans Bay, Wellington, when the Solent class flying-boats were eventually operating between Australia and New Zealand. The Minister said he was unable to say whether changes 'in flying-boat types or meteorological and other data gathered over the years supported the suitability of Evans Bay as a base. The New Plymouth player (Jeffery) was 4 down coming to the thirteenth hole and to pick up two holes on the national amateur champion, who was playing steady golf, was a splendid effort.
